Assam Students’ Day, or Chatra Divas, is celebrated annually on 31st March to honor the birth anniversary of the renowned social reformer and student leader, Upendra Nath Brahma. A man of many talents, Upendra Nath Brahma pursued an M.Sc. in Physics, served as an Income Tax Inspector, worked as a Science Teacher, and held the position of President of the Central ABSU. He is best remembered for leading the ‘Non-Violent Bodoland Movement’ and for his powerful slogan, ‘Live and Let Live.’ To commemorate his invaluable contributions, the Assam government declared his birthday, 31st March, as Assam Students’ Day, a day to pay tribute to his legacy.
