Manas National Park is named after the Manas River, a major tributary of the Brahmaputra River. Before declaring Manas as a national park, it was declared a UNESCO Natural Heritage Site, Project Tiger Reserve, Biosphere Reserve, and Elephant Reserve in Assam.
The total area of Manas National Park is 500 sq km. The area of Manas National Park falls into the Chirang and Baksa districts in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) of Assam.
Manas National Park is managed under the administration of the Assam Forest Department. The Manas National Park has three ranges- Panbari Range, Basbari Range, and Bhuiyapara Range. The Manas River passes through the heart of the National Park.

The Manas national park is home to more than 450 species of birds, with the largest population of the endangered Bengal florican.

You can visit Manas National Park in both the summer and winter seasons. Every year, the park remains open from October to May. But during the monsoon season from June to mid-October, the park remains closed, as Assam experiences heavy rainfall and floods yearly.
