Raimona National Park | A Unique Destination in Bodoland

Raimona National Park Assam: Raimona in Kokrajhar district has become the 6th National Park of Assam, and it’s the place you must visit in Bodoland. Assam CM, Himanta Sarma declared Raimona National Park in Kokrajhar on 5th June 2021 and it was officially declared National Park on 9th June 2021.

Raimona National Park is located in the Gossaigaon subdivision of the Kokrajhar district, under the BTR of Assam, India. Raimona National Park is famous for Golden Langur. Raimona became the sixth National Park in Assam and the second National Park in Bodoland after the Manas National Park Assam. At present a total of the seventh National Park in Assan with the latest addition of Dehing Patkai.

Raimona National Park Declaration Date 2021: You might be interested in knowing the Raimona National Park history, if so, you have to know that before the National Park’s status, Raimona was a Reserve Forest. The Assam CM, Himanta Biswa Sarma, declared Raimona as the National Park on 5th June 2021. He tweeted,

“A landmark step in environment restoration by Govt of Assam. On #WorldEnivonmentDay, a reserve forest in BTR has been declared as Raimona National Park. The newly declared National Park will be another addition to the state’s endeavour in preserving its rich flora and fauna.”

Raimona National Park Established: The Raimona National Park was officially created on 9 June 2021 through an Assam Gazette Notification No. FRW. 02/2021/27. By declaring Raimona a national park, Assam has shown the way forward towards a cleaner and greener future where humans and nature can coexist, the way it is meant to be, and, in the process, has created new avenues for sustainable development by taking everyone along.

Now with the addition of Raimona as the 6th National Park of Assam, the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has two National Parks.

Raimona National Park Area

Area of Raimona National Park: The Raimona Forest Reserved area was considered one of the state’s oldest Reserved Forest (RF). The Raimona National Park is part of a contiguous forest patch with 422 sq. km. The park has a transboundary landscape essential for long-ranging wildlife like elephants and tigers.

Raimona National Park Plants: Over 380 species of plants, including tropical evergreen forests, moist deciduous forests, cane, bamboo, and open grasslands are found in Raimona National Park.

Raimona National Park Animals: The area is home to the Golden Langur, Elephant, Tiger, Clouded Leopard, Indian Gaur, Wild Buffalo, Spotted Deer, Hornbills, several species of orchids, and more than 150 species of butterflies, 170 species of birds besides 380 species of plants,” the forest official stated.

Administration

The Bodoland Territorial Council Government will head the administration of the Park. The Kachugaon Forest Division of BTC of Assam will administer the National Park.

  1. Kachugaon: One is from the Kachugaon side leading to the ‘Jamduar Range’.

By Air

  • Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport, Guwahati: The nearest Airport to Raimona National Park is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport, Guwahati. One can book a cab or hire a taxi straight to Raimona National Park. Or if you are looking for a cheaper option, then there are Buses flying from Guwahati to West Bengal via NH31, you can board those buses and get down at Gossaigaon town, from there you can hire a local taxi to reach the National Park. The approximate distance from Guwahati to Raimona National Park is 231 km and takes 5 hours 30 mins.
  • Rupsi Airport, Kokrajhar: Rupsi Airport is the nearest one, but since the Airport is newly inaugurated and small in size, very less flights land here, you may need to check out the flight details first. The Airport distance is just 70 km and takes approximately 2 hours to reach the National Park.

By Train

  • Gossaigaon Railway Station: The nearest train station to Raimona National Park is Gossaigaon Railway Station. But some of the big trains don’t have a stoppage at the station. In that case, Kokrajhar Railway Station is the alternate option.
  • Kokrajhar Railway Station: The other nearest station to Raimona National Park is Kokrajhar Railway Station. All the trains have stoppage here. The distance from Kokrajhar to the National Park is around 57 km which takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the park.

By Road

By Road: Raimona National Park is accessible from different directions of the states. One can take from Rangpur (177.6 km), Siliguri (239 km), or Guwahati (201.1 km) to reach Raimona National Park. If you enjoy a long road trip, you are welcome to roll down the highway.
