WPL 2024 Venues: The WPL 2024 is scheduled to take place at two different venues – M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The first 11 matches will be held at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, while the remaining nine league matches and the two Playoff matches will be hosted at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is a T20 cricket competition for women players in India. The second season of WPL 2024 schedule has kicked off today on February 23 and will conclude on March 17 in New Delhi.
M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, also known as the KSCA stadium is a cricket ground, which will be the venue for the first phase of the second edition of the Women’s Premier League. The stadium is set to host 11 matches of the WPL 2024 season from February 23 to March 4, starting with last year’s finalists- Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals.
The M. Chinnaswamy stadium has been the home ground for Karnataka state teams and the Indian cricket team. It has a capacity of 33,800 and was established in 1969 with the support of the Karnataka government.
Since 2008, it has also been the home ground for the Bengaluru-based franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore men’s team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The venue will now also become the home ground for the women’s side, as announced by the BCCI.
Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi
The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi will be the venue for the remaining 11 Women’s Premier League (WPL) matches, taking place over two weeks.
The stadium which was originally established as the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in 1883, is India’s second oldest operational international cricket venue after Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. It has hosted 36 Tests, 29 ODIs, and 6 T20Is as of October 25, 2019, and has a seating capacity of 35,200.
Since 2008, the stadium has been the home ground for the men’s IPL team, now known as Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils).
