Expansion Of Orunodoi 2.0 To Include Transgender and Divyangjan Individuals
The Assam Government announced the expansion of Orunodoi 2.0 scheme during the Assam budget 2024-25. It is an expansion to its previous yojana which provided benefits to antyodaya women across the state. The expansion of this program will now include transgender and divyangjan individuals, benefiting 30 Lakh households of the state.
Households with members facing long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments such as dwarfism, cerebral palsy, thalassemia, haemophilia, leprosy or autism spectrum disorder have been put into focus under this revised scheme.
The Assam Government has decided to include an additional 2.5 lakh individuals to its previous 27 lakh beneficiaries, each receiving Rs 1250 on the 10th of every month in their respective bank accounts.
The districts of Chairaideo and Biswanath will see a change in the entire distribution process as it will be merged along with the issue of ration cards. According to the budget announcement, the State Government has made this integration on a pilot basis. Also the government has attempt to provide the Orunodoi Poriyal saturation under National Food Security Act (NFSA) on the same basis.
Note: Assam’s budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year is Rs 2.9 lakh crore, with a deficit of Rs 774.47 crore. Finance Minister Ajanta Neog aims to support education for 10 lakh girls under Assam Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Scheme, aiming to tackle the issue of child marriage.
Orunodoi Beneficiaries Insurance Coverage
To further secure the provisions of the Orunodoi beneficiaries, the Government is taking into consideration in providing insurance coverage under the-
- Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY)
- Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY).
The Assam State Government has allotted a total of Rs 3800 crore for the execution of the directives mentioned above.

Assam Orunodoi 2.0 Eligibility Criteria
The applicant should be a resident of Assam. The total annual household income of the applicant should not exceed Rs. 2 Lakh.
The beneficiary is required to have a bank account with a name that matches the scheme’s records.
