Apurna Narzary Biography: Apurna Narzary was born on 8 Jan 2004 in the remote Kagrabari village of Kokrajhar district, BTR, Assam, and is an Indian women’s professional footballer who plays as a forward. She is the Bodo’s first woman footballer to play for the National and International level. 

Update: Apurna was appointed captain of the Indian team for the second match in the Under-23 three-nation tournament held in Sweden between 22 and 28 July 2023.

Apurna Narzary Biography: Early Life, Education, Family, Marriage

Apurna Narzary Early Life: She was born on January 8, 2004, into a Bodo family in Kakrabari village near Bonorgaon of Kokrajhar district in Assam. Her father’s name is Biswajith Narzary, and her mother’s name is Sathibala Narzary. Her father was a Physical Instructor, and he used to play football at the district level earlier. When she was in school, from class 2-3 onwards, she started playing football. Since there were no girls to play with, she played football with the local boys of her village. Her father inspired her to keep playing and guided her whenever she needed help. She is not married yet.

She passed Class 10 from Laimwn Swrang Academy School, Dotma, and Class 12 from Dotma Higher Secondary School, Dotma. Currently, she is pursuing her graduation in Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Upendranath Brahma College, Dotma.

SAI Kokrajhar

Apurna began her career as a footballer in 2017 when she got selected for the SAI Kokrajhar; since then, she has started playing tournaments for SAI. She also played for the Subroto Cup and Reliance in Mumbai.

1. Indian Arrows

The Indian Arrows team signed the young sensational forward Apurna Narzary. Indian Arrows is Apurna’s first professional career in a Football club. She played in India’s Women League (IWL) during her stay at the Indian Arrows Football club.

Indian Arrows (previously known as Pailan Arrows) was founded in 2010 by AIFF, and this football club has been through ups and downs as they have disbanded and revived many times. Indian Arrows was revived in 2017 and now disbanded again on Sept 2022.

Apurna Narzary Kerala Blasters

The Kerala Blasters team signed young striker Apurna Narzary in July 2022. It is her second career in the football club. Unfortunately, her first club got disbanded on Sept 2022 by the AIFF.

Kerala Blasters WFC is a new Indian women’s football club based in Kochi, Kerala, founded in July 2022. This club is affiliated with their men’s team Kerala Blasters FC in the ISL.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) imposed a financial sanction on the Blasters in June 2023, leading to the club temporarily suspending the Kerala Blasters Football Women’s team. As a result of this, Apurna Narzary was recruited by the Sethu Football Club.

Founded in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Sethu FC competes in the Indian Women’s League. During the 2018-19 season, they won the league trophy.

1. U-23 Women’s Three-Nations Tournament in Sweden

From 22 June to 28 June 2023, the Indian National Women’s Football Team under-23 participated in the three-nations football tournament in Sweden.

Both of India’s matches against Sweden and USA in the three-nation tournament for under-23 players ended in defeat. Apurna was assigned the captaincy for the second match to lead the Indian team.

2. AFC U-20 Asian Cup 2023: 

Apurna Narzary will lead the National Team in the AFC U-20 Asian Cup Qualifiers Round 1 in Vietnam. She has been chosen as the Captain.

Round 1 of the Qualifiers will be played on 4-12 March 2023. Apart from India, hosts Vietnam, Singapore, and Indonesia are the other three teams in the group. In the first match on Tuesday, 7 March 2023, India will take on Singapore at 1.30 pm IST.

“For a few seconds, I could not believe my ears. It was a huge honour for me. I felt proud when Maymol madam told me about my appointment. At the same time, the first thing that came to my mind was that it was a big responsibility and we should make every effort to qualify for the next round,” Apurna said.

3. U-18 SAFF Women’s Championship 2022

Apurna played for India U-18 team in SAFF Women’s Championship, and India won the SAFF U18 Women’s Championship 2022 after defeating Bangladesh in Jamshedpur. Apurna Narzary scored 1 goal in the first match against Nepal at JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur. India won by 7-0.

SAFF full form South Asian Football Federation, runs several football competitions on the subcontinental level. The SAFF U-18 Women’s Championship was the 3rd edition, an international football competition for women’s under 18 national teams organized by the SAFF. The tournament was held from 15-25 March 2022 in Jamshedpur, India.

4. SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship 2021

Apurna Narzary participated in the 2021 SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship held in BSSS Mostafa Kamal Stadium, Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 11 to 22 Dec 2021. SAFF U-19 Women’s Championship 2021 is an international football competition for women’s under-19 national teams organized by SAFF. It’s the 2nd edition.

India lost to the host Bangladesh in the final of the tournament. Aparna Narzary couldn’t score in this championship.
