Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards 2023: The winners of the 6th Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards (NE) 2023 have been announced. The award-giving ceremony will be held on 10 January 2024 on the death anniversary of Sailadhar Baruah.
What is Sailadhar Baruah Film Award?
The Sailadhar Baruah Award is a Film Award for Best Feature Film in the North-East Region. The Sailadhar Award is given in honor of the well-cultured, honest businessman, and an eminent producer Sailadhar Baruah after his demise. The feature film awards, which encourage the production of films of high aesthetic and technical standards, will be handed out in 10 categories. All Awards carry a Sailadhar Baruah Memorial Memento, a Citation, and Cash Rewards.

Sailadhar Baruah along with Jahnu Barua won Swarna Kamal Award and established Assamese film not just in India but in the global arena. But on 10 January 2010, Sailadhar Baruah passed away following a prolonged illness.
After his death, his younger brother Mrinmoy Baruah, sister Nirmala Talukdar, and with the support of his other family members and well-wishers “Sailadhar Baruah Memorial Trust” was established. The main aim of the trust is to keep his works alive and carry forward his legacy. With that motto, the trust started the Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards among the films made in Assam in 2016. Later in 2019, it was expanded and covered all the states of the North-East Region.
6th Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards 2023 Winner List
The winners of the 6th Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards 2023 have been announced. Shrutismiti Chankakati’s Assamese feature film “Before Spring” wins five categories at the 6th Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards 2023 along with the Best Film Award 2023. Before Spring bags in five categories best film, best screenwriter, best cinematography, best film Editor, and best actor (male).
“Gorai Phakhri” a Bodo feature film won in two categories – Best Director (Rajni Basumatary) and Best Art Director (Jayanta Sugunari). Assamese film “Ata Nirjon Duparia” also bagged in two categories – Best Sound Designer and Best Actor (Female). “Mirbeen” is a Karbi feature film won in one category- Best Music Director.

Gorai Pakhri wins two categories at 6th Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards 2023
Rajni Basumatary’s Bodo Feature Film Gorai Phakhri गराइ फाख्रि (Wild Swan) bagged 6th Sailadhar Baruah Film Awards 2023 in two categories. For the Gorai Phakri Film Rajni Basumatary wins the best director category and Jayanta Sugunari wins the best art director category.
Gorai Phakri (Wild Swan) was released on 29 September 2023. This film also wins the best film award at the Kolkata International Film Festival under the Indian Language films category on 13 December 2023.
