BTC Accord Day: The BPF has celebrated the 23rd BTC Accord Day Today on 10 February 2025 at Bodoland Martyrs Cemetery, Debargaon, Kokrajhar. The program was organized by the Kokrajhar District Committee BPF.

What is BTC Accord Day

BTC Accord Day is celebrated annually on February 10 in Bodoland, Assam, since 2003. On February 10, 2003, a new Bodo Accord also known as the second peace accord was signed by the Bodoland Liberation Tigers (BLT), the central government, and the Assam government, establishing the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). This new accord led to formation of 3 new districts (Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri) along with the existing district (Kokrajhar), These 4 districts were a part of BTAD.

NOTE: The Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD) is now known as the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) region after the third bodo peace accord signed in 2020. The BTR has now 5 districts (Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri, Kokrajhar and Tamulpur).

Bodoland was formed with the mission of promoting development in several key areas, including the economy, education, land rights, linguistic aspirations, and the socio-cultural and ethnic identity of the Bodos. Above all, it aimed to accelerate infrastructure development within the Bodoland region. The council began functioning on December 7, 2003, with the provisional appointment of its 12 members.

After the Council Election on 13 May 2005 and subsequent bye-election in November 2005, the 40-member Legislative Council has been formed to look after the development works in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts. The Governor of Assam nominates the remaining six members from the unrepresented Communities. Thus, there are altogether 46 members of the council, representing all communities of the BTC Area known as Members of the Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA).
