Daoharu Garlabata Basumatary Death Anniversary 2023: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and Bodo Society paid tribute to Daoharu Garlabata Basumatary on his 23rd death anniversary on 7 September 2023. Garlabata Basumatary was shot by an armed miscreant near the Serfanguri petrol pump in 1999 and he died on 7 September 2000 having a serious bullet injury.
Daoharu Garla Bata Basumatary was the president of the central ABSU from 1992 to 1995. Daoharu Garla Bata Basumatary was a visionary leader. He led the Bodoland movement along with Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma to seek a separate state “Bodoland”.

Late Daoharu Garlabata Basumatary held the presidentship of ABSU in 1992-1995 and he was involved with the mass movement for a separate Bodoland state. He was also the president of the then Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) party formed in 1996 and held this post till his death on 7 September 2000.

Observance of Daoharu Garlabata Basumatary Death Anniversary
The death anniversary of Daoharu Garlabata Basumatary is observed every year on 7 September. All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and Bodo Society recall the contributions of the former president of central ABSU Daoharu Garlabata Basumatary, who had dedicated his life to the development and uplift of the Bodo community. He was a leader of the extraordinary of the union as well as the Bodo community. Late Garlabata Basumatary dreamt of forming a separate state of Bodos in the world but his mission and vision were not successful due to his untimely demise.
On his death anniversary, the legacy of Daoharu Garla Bata Basumatary is remembered for his contribution towards the awakening of the Bodo community during the UN Brahma’s led mass movement for a separate Bodoland state.
