Assam Rajya Sabha Election Result 2022: BJP candidate Shri Pabitra Margherita and UPPL candidate Shri Rwngwra Narzary won the Rajya Sabha Biennial Election 2022 in Assam held on 31 March 2022.
The Rajya Sabha, two seats from Assam, will get vacant after the term of Rajya Sabha MP Ranee Narah and MP Ripun Borah ends on 2 April 2022. Both MPs belong to the Congress party.

The Rajya Sabha election in Assam was held today, on 31 March 2022, at Assam Legislative Assembly for 2 Rajya Sabha seats. For the Assam 2022 Rajya Sabha polls:
- BJP nominated Shri Pabitra Margherita
- UPPL nominated Shri Rwngwra Narzary
- INC nominated Shri Ripun Bora

Winners of Assam Rajya Sabha Election 2022
The Assam Rajya Sabha Election 2022 Result was declared on 31 March 2022. Both BJP candidate Shri Pabitra Margherita and its alliance UPPL candidate Shri Rwngwra Narzary got elected as Rajya Sabha MP from Assam. The winners of the Assam Rajya Sabha Election 2022 are:

- Sjt. Rwngwra Narzary (UPPL)
Both the newly elected RS MP will now represent Assam in the Upper House of the Parliament for six years.
Since UPPL is in alliance with the BJP government, we can say that BJP has won both Rajya Sabha seats in Assam.
The Congress party (INC) lost both the Rajya Sabha MP seats, now they don’t have any representative in the upper house from the Assam state.

In Assam Rajya Sabha Member Election 2022, how many votes are required by the candidate to win the election? A candidate needs 43 votes to get elected.
But how come 43 votes? Let’s find out in a very simple way.
Assam has 126 constituencies and hence 126 MLAs, and 2 Rajya Sabha seat vacancies in the 2022 election.
The Required Votes Formula of Assam = [Total nos. of MLA/(Seat Vacancy + 1) ]+ 1 = [126/(2+1)] + 1 = [126/3] + 1 = 42+1 = 43.
So, a candidate needs 43 votes to win the Rajya Sabha Election 2022 in Assam.
BJP led NDA government has 74 MLAs in the Assam government. 74/2 = 37. Since BJP govt total MLAs divided by 2 candidates is short by 12 votes, BJP alone can’t win and send two candidates to Rajya Sabha. They needed 12 votes from the opposition and independent MLAs. Luckily, they managed to get extra 17 votes securing their victory.
