Together with the Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary of Karbi Anglongand Nambor Doigrung Wildlife Sanctuary of Golaghat district, it forms a larger complex of wilderness. The proposal for this sanctuary was made in 1993.

Marat Longri Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam: Marat Longri Wildlife Sanctuary covers a total area of 451 sq km It is located in Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council. Marat Longri is an important component of Dhansiri-Lungding Elephant Reserve. It is located adjacent to the Arboretum and Botanical Garden and is less than 10km away from Diphu City.
