Tenzing Bodosa: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 16 January 2024 announced the names of the recipients of Assam’s Highest Civilian Awards for the year 2023. CM Sarma announced that Tenzing Bodosa will be accorded the Assam Gaurav Award 2023 in the field of Environment & Forest.

Assam Civilian Awards consists of the three highest Civilian Awards:
This year former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi from Dibrugarh will be conferred with the highest civilian award Assam Baibhav 2023 in the field of Law & Justice.
Dr. Kishan Chand Nauriyal, Elvis Ali Hazarika, Hima Das, and Nadiram Deuri will be conferred with the second-highest civilian award Assam Saurav 2023.
Along with another 16 awardees environmentalist Tenzing Bodosa will be honored with the prestigious third-highest civilian award Assam Gaurav 2023. The Assam Civilian Award ceremony will be held on 10 February 2024 at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

Tenzing Bodosa
The Assam government has announced the third highest civilian Award Assam Gaurav 2023 for renowned organic tea farmer Tenzing Bodosa from the Dimakusi of the Udalguri district.
Bodosa is an environmentalist who has built Elephant-friendly tea gardens. He started growing tea organically in the year 2007. In the same year, he became the only cultivator who organically cultivated tea.
He has two farms in the Bodoland territorial area of Kachibari village in Udalguri district of Assam, which have been certified as the world’s largest elephant-friendly farms. He has built a Tea Estate co-existing with forest animals, growing green corridors (food species) for elephants in between his estate, an example of eco-tourism and forest livelihood.
