East Bengal Football Club (FC) is a sports club based in Kolkata, West Bengal established on August 1st, 1920 by Suresh Chandra Chaudhury and a group of important people. The club became affiliated with the Indian Football Association (IFA) in 1922. The club was one of the founding members of the National Football League, which was the first football league to cover the entire nation of India. They are best known for their men’s football team, which plays in the Indian Super League (ISL), the top football league in India.
The club is especially supported by people from the eastern region of Bengal, who had to leave their homes during the partition of India in 1947. For these people, East Bengal Club became a symbol of who they are and a source of hope.
In 2011, Emami East Bengal FC was ranked as the second-best team in India and 554 internationally by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics.
