Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award 2023: The 5th edition of The Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award is conferred to Padma Shri Awardee and Forest man of India – Shri Jadav Payeng on the 164th birth anniversary of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma on 18 April 2023.

The ‘Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award‘ is established by the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust (GKBT) in memory of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, the great social reformer and preacher of Brahma Dharma among the Bodo people.
The latest 5th edition of the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award 2023 is conferred to the Jadav Payeng. The award consists of a Cash amount of Rs. 50,000 and a Citation, Endi shawl, and Momento.
Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma
You may be wondering who Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma is. Kalicharan Brahma was the preacher of the Brahma religion amongst the Bodos. Kalicharan Brahma attained Diksha in the Brahma religion in Calcutta, and he had a speculative mission to work towards the development of the Bodos. He began his work by preaching Brahma Dharma among the Bodo people in 1906. Later on, he is called ‘Gurudev’ or ‘Guru Brahma’ by the Bodos for his great work.
Kalicharan was born at Kajigaon in the undivided Goalpara district on 18 April 1860. The name of his parents is Khoularam Mech and Randini Mech. He passed away at the age of 78 on 8 May 1938.
He was also known as the founder of ‘Boro Chhatra Sanmilanni’.
Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust
The Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust (GKBT) was established in 2008 to promote the ideological works of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma. Dr. Ajit Boro, The Principal of Gossaigaon B.Ed College, is the president of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Trust (GKBT).
The GKBT constituted the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award to be conferred annually to an outstanding personality in honor of their remarkable work and contribution to the field of Brahma Dharma philosophy of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma.

1. Jadav Payeng
Jadav Payeng has been conferred the latest 5th edition of the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award 2023 on the occasion of the 164th birth anniversary of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, that was observed in New Delhi on 18 April 2023. More details will be shared soon.
Jadav Payeng is popularly known as the Forest Man of India. He planted trees on a sandbar of the river Brahmaputra and converted it into a Forest reserve, now known as Molai forest, named after his nicknamed Molai. Jadav was also honored with the Padma Shri award in 2015.
Jadav is from the Missing community and was born on 31 Oct 1959 in Majuli, Assam.
2. Manoranjan Brahma
Manoranjan Brahma has been conferred the 4th edition of the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award 2022 on the occasion of the 163rd birth anniversary of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma. The program was held in the auditorium of Bodoland University on 18 April 2022.
Manoranjan Brahma was the Chief Preacher of Sodou Brahma Dharma Samiti. GKBT has decided to confer the Gurudev Kalicharan Award to Manoranjan Brahma for his outstanding contributions to spreading the noble ideology of Gurudev.
3. Dr Kameswar Brahma
Dr. Kameswar Brahma has been conferred the 3rd edition of the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award 2021 on the occasion of the 162nd birth anniversary of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma. The program was held at the Phanidhar Dutta Seminar Hall in Guwahati University on 18 April 2021.
Dr. Kameswar Brahma is a noted writer, academician, Padma Shri awardee, former Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) president, and the retired Principal of Gossaigaon College.
He has written several books on Gurudev Kalicharan, and based on his contributions towards the development of the philosophy of Gurudev and the field of literature and society, he was awarded the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award 2021.
4. Bidyasagar Narzary
Bidyasagar Narzary has been conferred the 2nd edition of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award 2019 on the occasion of 160th birth anniversary of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, it was observed in Science College Kokrajhar in 18th april 2019.
Bidyasagar Narzary is a writer, he has been coferred the second Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award-2019 for his contribution and works.
5. Jageswar Brahma
Jageswar Brahma was the first receiver of the Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award 2018, Which was celebrated on the occasion of the 159th birth anniversary of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma at Bodoland University.
Jageswar Brahma is the chief preacher of Brahma Dharma Prasar Sangshad. He is the first person who was awarded Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma Award 2018.
