Assam Budget 26 February 2024: The Assam Budget 2024-25 in Dispur commenced on Feb 5 and concluded on Monday, February 26, 2024. During the session, 15 bills were presented—six were new, and the remaining nine were amendments.
During the final day of the Assam Assembly budget session, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the opposition for supporting an outdated law, the Assam Muslim Marriages and Divorces Registration Act, 1935, which has already been repealed. He clarified in the assembly that getting rid of this law is aimed at preventing child marriages.
“Till I am alive, I won’t allow child marriage to happen in Assam,” said Assam CM Sarma during the last day of the Assam Budget 26 February 2024.

- The Assam Assembly has passed a law banning non-scientific healing practices in the state. The Assam Healing (Prevention of Evil) Practices Bill, 2024, was approved on the final day of the budget session. This law is designed to put an end to traditional healing methods that may have ulterior motives.
- The Assam Public Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, 2024, was passed by a voice vote on the last day of the Budget session. The bill proposes a maximum of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 10 crore for anyone found guilty of cheating in recruitment exams.
- The Assam Assembly also passed a bill by voice vote, merging the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). This merger creates the new body, Assam State School Education Board Bill, which will oversee the education system up to Class XII in the state.
- The Assam Legislative Assembly also passed an important bills which is based on the National Education Policy 2020. These bills are the Shaheed Kanaklata Barua State University Bill 2024, and the Kokrajhar University Bill 2024.
