About Shillong Lajong Football Club
Shillong Lajong Football Club (SLFC) is a professional football club from India based in Shillong, Meghalaya. Shillong Lajong was founded in 1983 with the main aim of improving football standards in the state and nurturing local talent. The word “Lajong” means “our own” in the local Khasi language.
The club is nicknamed “The Red Dragons.”
They currently play in the I-League, which is the second-highest football league of India. The club earned its spot in the I-League after being promoted from the 2022–23 I-League 2.
The SLFC is the first club from NorthEast region to gain national recognition in football. Initially known as the Lajong Sports Social and Cultural Club, they joined the I-League 2nd Division in 2009, which was the second-highest league back then. After just one season in that division, they were promoted to the I-League.
The club also has its youth men’s football section and academy teams, actively participating in regional tournaments, with the Northeat Games being one of the key events they take part in.

Shillong Lajong FC is set to participate in the 132nd edition of the Durand Cup 2023. The club is placed in Group D, alongside Downtown Heroes FC, Northeast United FC and FC Goa.
