Durand Cup 2024 Start Date

The Durand Cup 2024-25, Asia’s oldest domestic football tournament in India, is all set to kick off its 133rd edition from July 26 to August 31.

The tournament was established in 1888 and named after Sir Henry Mortimer Durand.

In previous edition, all 12 Indian Super League (ISL) clubs participated alongside five I-League teams, one I-League 2 team, three Armed Forces team, three overseas team, and 1 regional team (Bodoland FC), making a total 24 teams.

The lineup for the upcoming season is uncertain, with decisions pending on whether foreign teams to participate again and if regional team will be included based on hosting venue. Despite these unknowns, one thing is definite that the 12 ISL clubs are mandated to participate. We’ll receive more details as the event approaches.

Durand Cup 2024 Venues

In Durand Cup 2023-24, the tournament took place across three venues- Kolkata, Guwahati, and Kokrajhar, with a total of six stadiums. The final match took place at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK stadium) in Kolkata on August.

Kokrajhar hosted the Durand Cup 2023 for the first time last year, with a regional team Bodoland FC in the competition. Kokrajhar hosted the 2023-24 edition in two stadiums- SAI Stadium Kokrajhar and Kokrajhar KSDA Stadium.

In the Durand Cup 2023-24 Fixtures, a total of 43 matches were played, consisting of 36 group stage matches, 4 quarter-finals, 2 semifinals, and a final.

The teams were split into 6 groups, and each with four teams, competing each other in their own group. As a result, every team engaged in a total of 3 matches during the group stage.

Durand Cup 2024 winner

Mohun Bagan Super Giant is the Durand Cup 2023-24 winner, defeating East Bengal with a 1-0 score at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) in Kolkata. This hard-fought Kolkata Derby took place on 3 September 2023.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant holds the record for the most winning titles in the Durand Cup history with 17, while their rivals, East Bengal, come in second with 16 trophies.

Durand Cup Awards

The winning team receives three trophies, and the following are the Durand Cup awards:

  1. The Durand Cup (a rolling trophy and the original prize) 
  2. The Shimla Trophy (also a rolling trophy and first given by the residents of Shimla in 1904)
  3. The President’s Cup (for permanent keep and first presented by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India’s first President, in 1956)

Furthermore, the tournament also includes individual awards for outstanding players, and the following are the Durand Cup individual awards:

  3. Golden Ball
